A Stobart Air Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A on behalf of Aer Lingus, registration EI-FAW performing flight EI-3728 from Cork (Ireland) to Manchester,EN (UK), was on final approach to Manchester's runway 23R when the aircraft went around from about 700 feet MSL. The aircraft positioned for another approach to runway 25R but went around from about 1400 feet MSL. The crew subsequently diverted to Birmingham,EN (UK) where the aircraft landed safely on runway 15 about 20 minutes after aborting the second approach to Manchester.

The aircraft was able to position out of Birmingham about 2 hours after landing in Birmingham.

A passenger reported the crew announced the landing lights had failed and they could not land in Manchester due to low lying haze. They diverted to Birmingham because the weather conditions there were better.
