An Avianca Airbus A319-100, registration N723AV performing flight AV-260 from Rio de Janeiro,RJ (Brazil) to Bogota (Colombia), was enroute at FL360 northwest of Brasilia,DF (Brazil) when the aircraft encountered a brief period of medium intensity vibrations. Some time later the vibrations occurred again and ended after a short time but only to re-occur a third time after which the crew decided to turn around and divert to Brasilia. The aircraft descended to FL330 for the diversion and landed safely on Brasilia's runway 11R about 45 minutes later.

A passenger reported that following landing maintenance checked the left hand engine (CFM56). About 90 minutes after landing the passengers disembarked into the terminal.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Brasilia about 27 hours after landing.
