A British Airways Airbus A320-200, registration G-EUYG performing flight BA-491 from Gibraltar (Gibraltar) to London Heathrow,EN (UK), was climbing out of Gibraltar's runway 27 when the crew stopped the climb at 9000 feet due to the failure of the right hand engine (V2527). The crew shut the engine down and diverted to Malaga,SP (Spain) for a safe landing on runway 31 about 35 minutes after departure.

A replacement A320-200 registration G-EUUN reached London with a delay of 6 hours.
