A KLM Cityhopper Embraer ERJ-190, registration PH-EZU performing flight KL-1771 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was climbing out of Amsterdam when the crew stopped the climb at FL290 reporting a lightning strike on the nose and returned to Amsterdam for a safe landing about 40 minutes after departure.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 24 hours before resuming service.
