An Air Canada Airbus A319-100, registration C-GBIA performing flight AC-548 from Vancouver,BC (Canada) to Newark,NJ (USA) with 124 people on board, had been dispatched under minimum equipment list requirements with the right hand FMGS disabled. The aircraft was enroute at FL350 about 215nm east of Vancouver when the crew decided to return to Vancouver after the left hand FMGS also failed disabling navigation, en route performance optimization, autopilot control, flight director commands, auto thrust control, navigation radio auto tuning, information display management, rudder commands, and flight envelope computations. The aircraft landed safely back on Vancouver's runway 08R about 90 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance reloaded the navigation data software, then replaced both FMGCs.
