A United Boeing 737-800, registration N14235 performing flight UA-183 from Guam (Guam) to Manila (Philippines) with 146 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL360 over the Pacific Ocean about 70 minutes into the flight when the right hand engine (CFM56) needed to be shut down. The aircraft drifted down to FL220, turned around and returned to Guam for a safe landing about 150 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration N14249 reached Manila as flight UA-2050 with a delay of 6.5 hours.

The airline confirmed engine issues.
