A SAS Scandinavian Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration LN-RRT performing flight SK-7318 from Las Palmas,CI (Spain) to Trondheim (Norway) with 171 people on board, had departed Las Palmas' runway 03L and was climbing towards cruise level when the crew stopped the climb at FL220 after receiving information that debris of a tyre had been located on the runway. The aircraft returned to Las Palmas for a low approach to check the gear from the ground which confirmed the inboard right main tyre had blown. The aircraft entered a hold to burn off fuel and landed safely back on Las Palmas' runway 03L about 2:50 hours after departure.

Passengers reported they heard a bang before the aircraft entered the runway but did not mention any further anomaly until the crew announced they were returning to Las Palmas due to tyre debris having been found on the runway.

The airline reported a normal landing occurred after a tyre got damaged. The flight was cancelled, the passengers taken to hotels. A replacement aircraft was expected to take the passengers to Trondheim the following day.
