A Perimeter Aviation de Havilland Dash 8-100, registration C-FOFR performing flight 4B-612 from St. Theresa Point,MB to Winnipeg,MB (Canada), was enroute at FL160 under procedural air traffic control.

A Perimeter Aviation Swearingen SA-226-TC Metro II, registration C-GYRD performing flight 4B-7 from Winnipeg,MB to Gods Lake Narrows,MB (Canada), was enroute at FL190 under procedural air traffic control, the route taking the aircraft virtually straight over St. Theresa Point.

After the controller requested the distances of 4B-612 from Theresa Point and 4B-7 from Gods Lake Narrows the controller cleared 4B-612 to climb to FL190. Both crews however had the other aircraft on their TCAS displays and recognized they had not yet passed each other, 4B-612 therefore did not climb until after having passed 4B-7. Both aircraft continued to their destinations for safe landings.

The Canadian TSB reported because of the TCAS displays permitting both flight crew to recognize they had not yet passed each other 4B-612 did not climb and there was no risk of a collision. Reportedly the controller inadvertently used Gods River instead of Gods Lake Narrows to determine the position of 4B-7.
