An Air New Zealand Boeing 767-300, registration ZK-NCK performing flight NZ-10 from Auckland (New Zealand) to Honolulu,HI (USA), was enroute over the Pacific Ocean about 1:45 hours into the flight when the crew decided to return to Auckland due to a failed generator. The aircraft burned off fuel at FL200 north of Auckland and landed safely back in Auckland about 4:15 hours after departure.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration ZK-NCI reached Honolulu with a delay of 6:45 hours.

The airline reported the crew suspected a generator defect, consulted with maintenance and decided to return to the engineering and maintenance base in Auckland.
