A Canadian North Boeing 737-200, registration C-GKCP performing flight 5T-9422 from Edmonton,AB to Snap Lake,NT [CSK6] (Canada) with 96 people on board, was enroute at FL320 about 160nm south of the destination when the crew received a #1 engine (JT8D) overheat indication, reduced the engine to idle which brought the indication to extinguish. In consultation with company dispatch the crew decided to divert to Yellowknife,NT for a safe landing.

The Canadian TSB reported company maintenance decided to replace the engine.
