A Canadian North Boeing 737-200, registration C-GKCP performing flight 5T-1724 from Calgary,AB to Fort MacKay,AB (Canada) with 92 people on board, was enroute at FL320 about 25nm northwest of Fort McMurray when the crew received a left hand engine (JT8D) overheat indication, shut the engine down and discharged both fire bottles as per checklists. The crew declared emergency and diverted to Fort McMurray for a safe landing.

The Canadian TSB reported that a visual inspection revealed no damage. Airline Maintenance is going to update the TSB with their findings.

Maintenance reported a leaking bleed air line was discovered which blew hot air straight onto the fire detection loops. The line was replaced together with the fire bottles and squibs.
