A Flybe de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration G-JEDV performing flight BE-1018 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Southampton,EN (UK) with 50 passengers and 4 crew, was enroute at FL240 over the mouth of River Thames when cabin crew reported the left forward door was making a loud whistling noise despite appearing to be closed correctly. Flight crew verified the door indicated closed. A short time later the flight crew noticed the cabin was slowly climbing at about 500 feet per minute and requested clearance to descend and upon being cleared to descend to FL140 began their descent. During the climb the noise from the cabin door increased and the flight crew received a red cabin pressure indication indicating loss of pressure. The crew initiated an emergency descent declaring Mayday, donned their oxygen masks, while ATC cleared the aircraft to FL100 and began to provide vectors for an approach to London's Gatwick Airport. After levelling at FL100 the crew assessed that they needed to run a couple of checklists, the aircraft was safe to continue to Southampton, there were no injuries on board, hence it was better advised to continue a slow descent towards Southampton than a rapid descent towards Gatwick. The aircraft continued to Southampton at a low rate of descent and landed safely.

The AAIB released their bulletin reporting the airline stated G-JEDV had suffered several recent depressurization events, in neither of which the cause could be positively identified. Following the incident flight maintenance replaced the door seal, cabin pressure controller and pressurization control panel. Since that maintenance activity no further depressurization has occurred.
