A Flybe de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration G-ECOD performing flight BE-354 from Newquay,EN to Manchester,EN (UK) with 68 people on board, was climbing through FL100 out of Newquay when the left hand engine (PW150A) emitted a pop and revving sounds prompting the crew to shut the engine down. The aircraft returned to Newquay for a safe landing about 35 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported a pop sound was heard from the left hand engine as the aircraft climbed through about 10,000 feet following by strange revving sounds, the propeller stopped a short time afterwards. The aircraft returned to Newquay about 30 minutes after departure.

The airline reported there was no emergency landing, however confirmed the aircraft returned to Newquay because of a technical issue.
