A Swiss European Airlines Avro RJ-100, registration HB-IXR performing flight LX-1950 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Barcelona,SP (Spain), was enroute at FL310 about 40nm south of Geneva (Switzerland) when the crew declared PAN reporting an engine (LF507) failure and decided to divert to Geneva. The aircraft landed safely on runway 23 about 25 minutes later.

A passenger reported the aircraft sustained an engine failure resulting in an unexpected "firework show".
