A United Boeing 757-200, registration N537UA performing flight UA-297 from Boston,MA to San Francisco,CA (USA) with 168 people on board, was enroute at FL360 about 120nm northwest of Lincoln,NE (USA) when the crew needed to shut an engine (PW2037) down. The aircraft drifted down to FL250 still in the general direction of San Francisco, then the crew decided to divert to Lincoln, turned around about 200nm westnorthwest of Lincoln about 20 minutes after leaving FL360 and diverted to Lincoln for a safe landing on runway 18 about one hour after leaving FL360.

A replacement Boeing 757-200 registration N577UA reached San Francisco with a delay of 9 hours.
