An Austrian Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration OE-LPC performing flight OS-88 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Vienna (Austria) with 304 passengers and 12 crew, was enroute at FL380 about 120nm westsouthwest of Frankfurt/Main (Germany) when the crew decided to shut the right hand engine (GE90) down due to vibrations and divert to Frankfurt for a safe landing on runway 25C about 30 minutes later.

The airline reported the crew noticed vibrations of the right hand engine, worked the related checklists to no avail and decided to shut the engine down. The remainder of the flight was cancelled. The about 170 passengers with ultimate destination Vienna were rebooked onto other flights to Vienna, the other passengers with other ultimate destinations rebooked onto flights from Frankfurt to their destinations. The engine is being replaced in Frankfurt.
