A TAROM Romania Air Transport Boeing 737-300, registration YR-BGD performing flight RO-415 from Bucharest Otopeni (Romania) to Madrid,SP (Spain) with 78 passengers and 5 crew, had departed runway 08L and was climbing through FL300 out of Bucharest when the crew decided to return to Otopeni Airport due to reports of unusual noises during the takeoff rotation leading the crew to suspect a tailstrike. The airplane landed safely on runway 08R about 35 minutes after departure. The airplane received substantial damage.

A replacement Boeing 737-300 registration YR-BGA reached Madrid with a delay of 3 hours.

On Mar 8th 2014 the NTSB reported the flight crew felt a loss of lift after rotation for takeoff, the cabin crew told flight crew they felt an impact in the tail area during rotation. The extent of the damage is (still) unknown to the NTSB. Romania's Center of Investigation and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety is investigating the occurrence.
