A Cathay Pacific Airbus A340-300, registration B-HXE performing flight CX-270 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Hong Kong (China), was climbing out of Amsterdam's runway 18L when the crew reported upon contacting departure that they had problems with the flaps and possibly needed to return to Amsterdam, but for now wanted to continue on the departure route at a speed below 200 KIAS and level off at FL100. The crew subsequently worked the relevant checklists attempting to reset the flaps system, however, without success and subsequently decided to return to Amsterdam. The aircraft dumped fuel at FL140 and returned to Amsterdam for a safe landing on runway 27 about 90 minutes after departure.

Passengers are complaining that their flight was delayed by 48 hours as result.
