A Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-DPB performing flight FR-4826 from Cagliari to Venice Treviso (Italy) with 141 passengers and 6 crew, was climbing out of Cagliari's runway 32 when the crew stopped the climb at FL090 due to an engine (CFM56) failure. The aircraft entered a hold, the checklists were worked and the engine shut down. After about 30 minutes in the hold the aircraft returned to Cagliari for a safe landing on runway 32 about 40 minutes after departure.

The airline reported the aircraft returned to Cagliari due to a problem with one of the engines. The aircraft landed normally, the passengers were tranferred to a replacement aircraft.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration EI-ENO reached Venice with a delay of 4 hours.

The incident aircraft resumed service the following day about 31 hours after landing back to Cagliari.
