A Porter Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration C-GLQF performing flight PD-687 from Toronto City,ON to Sault Ste Marie,ON (Canada) with 28 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Toronto's City Airport when the crew stopped the climb at 3000 feet due to a left hand engine (PW150A) fire indication. The crew worked the relevant checklists, shut the engine down and engaged the fire suppression system. The aircraft diverted to Toronto's Lester Pearson International Airport for a safe landing on runway 33R about 19 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance discovered an exhaust nozzle had detached which permitted hot gasses to enter the engine nacelle and produced localized heat damage to adjacent hardware, harnesses, plumbings and an aft nacelle door.
