A Tunisair Express Avion de Transport Regional ATR-72-500, registration TS-LBC performing flight UG-40 from Tunis to Tozeur (Tunisia), was climbing out of Tunis when the crew received indications suggesting an engine oil leak for the left hand engine. The crew decided to return to Tunis for a safe landing about 10 minutes after departure.

Passengers reported seeing sparks out of the engine during takeoff rotation and alerted cabin crew.

The airline confirmed that the crew received indications of an engine oil leak and returned to Tunis as a precaution. The passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
