A KLM Cityhopper Fokker 70, registration PH-KZP performing flight WA-1825/KL-1825 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Berlin Tegel (Germany), was enroute at FL230 about 25nm east of Hanover when the crew requested an immediate descent to FL100 without declaring emergency or urgency. The aircraft was cleared down to FL100, the crew subsequently decided to turn around and divert to Hanover for a safe landing on runway 27R about 20 minutes after leaving FL230.

A passenger reported the captain announced they had problems with an air conditioning system (pack) and therefore needed to divert to Hanover.

The incident aircraft was able to position back to Amsterdam as flight KL-7110 after about 6.5 hours after landing, but did not climb above FL080 for the return flight.
