A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N175DZ performing flight DL-81 from Brussels (Belgium) to Atlanta,GA (USA) with 199 passengers and 10 crew, was enroute at FL320 about 250nm southsoutheast of Stephenville,NL (Canada) when the crew decided to turn north to divert to Stephenville due to the failure of a second generator in flight after one had failed shortly after takeoff. The aircraft landed safely on Stephenville's runway 09 about 45 minutes later.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration N155DL reached Atlanta with a delay of 12 hours.

The incident aircraft positioned to Atlanta the following day as flight DL-9979 after about 16.5 hours on the ground in Stephenville.

The airline confirmed a generator failed shortly after departure, when a second generator failed in flight the aircraft diverted to Stephenville.
