A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration 9V-SWN performing flight SQ-285 (dep Aug 14th) from Singapore (Singapore) to Auckland (New Zealand) with 269 people on board, dropped one of the slat panels at some stage during the flight, nobody on board noticed the panel separating. The aircraft continued to Auckland for a safe landing.

A postflight inspection revealed one of the panels at the slats missing. The aircraft was taken out of service, the return flight SQ-286 was cancelled.

The airline confirmed a minor issue with one of the panels, size about 20cm by 17cm, that never posed any danger to the aircraft or its occupants. However, as flight controls (slats) were involved the aircraft was taken out of service for 48 hours until a spare part was flown in.

The incident aircraft positioned to Singapore as flight SQ-9286 about 48 hours later.
