Vietnam A321 enroute on Aug 6th 2013, severe clear air turbulence causes altitude excursion

A Vietnam Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration VN-A322 performing flight VN-615 from Hanoi (Vietnam) to Bangkok (Thailand) with 104 passengers and 8 crew, was enroute at FL360 about 45 minutes into the flight, cabin crew was just serving meals, when the aircraft encountered severe clear air turbulence not detected by weather radar causing the flight attendants to lift off the floor and all loose items float through the cabin, then the aircraft climbed about 400 feet uncommandedly before the crew could regain control and return the aircraft to the assigned flight level. There were no injuries though the jolts left passengers and cabin crew stunned. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Bangkok's runway 19R about one hour later.

The airline reported that the flight had been smooth, the weather radar did not pick up any indications of concern, when the aircraft entered severe turbulence in clear air causing all loose items and cabin crew to float through the cabin, the aircraft deviated from its assigned altitude and climbed about 400 feet before control was regained. None of the passengers or crew needed medical assistance.
