A Spirit Airlines Airbus A319-100, registration N521NK performing flight NK-972 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX to Fort Lauderdale,FL (USA), rejected takeoff from runway 17R at high speed after loud bangs were heard from the right hand side, the aircraft came to a stop near the intersection with taxiway EJ about the crew requested airport services to check whether any tyres had blown. An airport vehicle in the vicinity drove around the aircraft and reported all tyres appeared to be inflated, they had heard two loud booms when the aircraft went down the runway. Emergency services were dispatched to check the aircraft and reported it appeared the right hand engine (V2524) had flamed out. Emergency services released the aircraft to taxi to the apron on own power and followed the aircraft in trail to the stand.

A replacement Airbus A319-100 registration N534NK reached Fort Lauderdale with a delay of 2 hours.
