The crew performed a manual gear extension, Venice tower advised emergency services the aircraft required assistance because of an unsafe gear indication. The aircraft landed safely, emergency services needed to cool the brakes after landing.

A replacement Boeing 717-200 reached Palermo with a delay of 5.5 hours.
