An Aeroflot Ilyushin IL-96, registration RA-96011 performing flight SU-2075 from Larnaca (Cyprus) to Moscow Sheremetyevo (Russia) with 259 passengers on board, was climbing out of Larnaca at climb thrust about 20 minutes into the flight when the #1 engine (PS-90, outboard left hand) surged and was automatically shut down. The crew stopped the climb at FL338, descended the aircraft to FL280 and continued to Moscow for a safe landing on three engines about 3 hours later.
