A LAN Airlines Airbus A319-100, registration CC-CPE performing flight LU-281 from Santiago to Punta Arenas (Chile), landed on Punta Arenas' runway 12 (length 2400 meters/7860 feet) at 09:15L (13:15Z) but overran the end of the snow covered runway and came to a stop on the paved surface of the runway end safety area. The aircraft was shut down, the passengers disembarked onto the runway via stairs through the rear right hand door and were bussed to the terminal.

The aircraft was subsequently towed to the apron.
