A Copa Airlines Boeing 737-700, registration HP-1520CMP performing flight CM-310 from Guayaquil (Ecuador) to Panama City (Panama) with 90 passengers, veered right off the runway while landing at Panama City at 20:16L (01:16Z May 22nd) , the crew managed to steer the aircraft back onto the runway and slowed the aircraft to a stop. No injuries occurred, the right hand engine (CFM56) received damage due to contacting soft ground during the excursion. The aircraft was able to taxi to the apron about 30 minutes later.

The airline confirmed the incident reporting a strong gust caught the aircraft during roll out causing the runway excursion, the commander was able to return the aircraft back onto the runway. No injuries occurred.

The airport reported the right hand engine was affected as it contacted soft ground (grass) off the runway.
