An Air Astana Boeing 757-200, registration P4-KCU performing flight KC-128 from Tashkent (Uzbekistan) to Almaty (Kazakhstan) with 136 passengers, was enroute near Shimkent (Kazakhstan) when the crew initiated an emergency descent and the passenger oxygen masks were released due to the gradual loss of cabin pressure. The aircraft diverted to Shimkent for a safe landing.

The passengers were rebooked onto flight KC-970, upgraded to be flown by Airbus A321-200 registration P4-KDA, and reached Almaty with a delay of 9 hours.

The incident aircraft positioned to Almaty later the day as flight KC-1280, but has not been seen on radar since (standing May 13th 21:00Z).

The airline reported one of the air conditioning systems had failed.
