A KLM Boeing 777-200, registration PH-BQN performing flight KL-809 from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Jakarta (Indonesia), was climbing through FL240 out of Kuala Lumpur when the crew stopped the climb reporting the failure of their navigation systems and returned to Kuala Lumpur for a safe landing on Kuala Lumpur's runway 32L about 40 minutes after departure.

The rotation KL-809/KL-810 from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta and back was cancelled according to flight plans.

The incident aircraft was able to fly the return flight as KL-810D from Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam (Netherlands) with a delay of 24 hours.

Passengers waiting in Jakarta for their flight KL-810 to Amsterdam via Kuala Lumpur were told, that the inbound aircraft had returned to Kuala Lumpur due to a navigation system fault, their flight had not been cancelled, however all passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
