China Eastern A359 at Shanghai on May 2nd 2026, IRS fail, brakes fail, multiple collisions with jet bridge

A China Eastern Airbus A350-900, registration B-324W performing flight MU-5406 from Chengdu to Shanghai Hongqiao (China), was climbing out of Chengdu when the crew received a NAV IR3 FAULT indication. The crew performed the ECAM procedures and turned IR3 off, after which the crew received BRAKES AUTO BRK FAULT, BRAKES G ACCU REINFLATE FAULT and BRAKES Y ACCU REINFLATE FAULT messages. The flight continued to Shanghai for a normal landing on runway 18L, the aircraft decelerated normally and taxied to the apron. During taxi the brakes failed. In accordance with memory items for lost brakes the captain applied full reverse thrust while moving into the stand, the aircraft began to move backwards, the crew set thrust to idle, the aircraft began to move forward again, thrust levers were moved between reverse and idle several times, however, the aircraft's left wing and left engine (Trent XWB) collided with the jet bridge several times.

China's CAAC have opened an investigation into the occurrence.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Shanghai 20 days later.
