Portugal's GPIAA reported in their April Bulletin, that during climbing out of Gatwick when before reaching 10,000 feet cabin crew noticed a strong odour of burning and informed the purser. The purser instructed the cabin crew to contact the cockpit and went to check the situation, where 12 passengers had already stood up and blocked the aisle. Cabin crew were discharging a fire extinguisher into a overhead locker, where a piece of passenger luggage was found burning. The fire was quickly extinguished and the smoke dissipated. The aircraft returned to Gatwick, where firefighters removed the hand luggage. The source of the fire was identified to be an e-cigarette stowed within the hand luggage.
