A Link Air Saab 340B, registration VH-VEZ performing flight LR-201 from Canberra,AC to Newcastle,NS (Australia), departed Canberra's runway 35 when the inboard left main wheel departed from the aircraft. The crew stopped the climb at 5000 feet and returned to Canberra for a safe landing on runway 35 about 25 minutes after departure.

The ATSB opened an investigation into the occurrence.

The aircraft returned to service the following day.
