An Easyjet Airbus A320-200N, registration G-UZHE performing flight U2-8069 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Malaga,SP (Spain), was enroute at FL310 about 50nm northwest of Madrid,SP (Spain) when the crew reported smoke in the cabin and decided to divert to Madrid. The aircraft performed a safe landing on Madrid's runway 32L in low visibility conditions and taxied to a remote apron with emergency services trailing the aircraft.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration G-EZTX reached Malaga with a delay of about 7.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Madrid for about 26 hours before positioning back to London Gatwick.
