A Cathay Pacific Airbus A350-1000, registration B-LXM performing flight CX-811 from Boston,MA (USA) to Hong Kong (China) with 302 people on board, was climbing out of Boston's runway 33L when the crew donned their oxygen masks, declared Mayday reporting smoke on board, requested to level off at 4000 feet and immediately return to Boston's runway 33L. The crew subsequently reported it looked like the fire was out and requested to extend their downwind, they were too heavy to land. The crew, still on oxygen, decided to dump fuel east of the Aerodrome and returned to Boston for a safe landing on runway 33L about 60 minutes after departure.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Boston on Jan 22nd 2025 about 52 hours after landing back.
