An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-9 MAX, registration N968AK performing flight AS-300 from Portland,OR to Orlando,FL (USA) with 174 people on board, was climbing out of Portland's runway 10L when the crew stopped the climb at 8000 feet reporting they had hit some birds, requested radar vectors back to Portland and anticipated a normal landing but requested emergency services on stand by. The aircraft returned to Portland for a safe landing on runway 10R about 20 minutes after departure.

The airline reported a bird strike just after takeoff. The passengers were rebooked to Orlando.

A replacement Boeing 737-9 MAX registration N982AK reached Orlando with a delay of about 3 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Portland about 20 hours after landing.
