A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 787-9, registration JA863J performing flight JL-22 from Beijing (China) to Tokyo Haneda (Japan) with 121 passengers and 11 crew, was enroute at FL410 about 110nm east of Seoul (South Korea) when the aircraft encountered turbulence causing a flight attendant to suffer injuries (fractured rib). The aircraft continued to destination for a landing without further incident.

Japan's TSB reported the aircraft encountered a lateral upset (side to side) causing the flight attendant to hit the right hand side hard. As the occurrence happened within the airspace of South Korea, South Korean ARAIB is going to decide about an investigation.

On Sep 10th 2024 the JTSB listed the occurrence on their own investigation page indicating the JTSB is investigating the accident.
