A Singapore Airlines Boeing 787-10, registration 9V-SCD performing flight SQ-638 (dep Aug 11th) from Singapore (Singapore) to Tokyo Narita (Japan) with 260 passengers and 16 crew, landed on Tokyo's runway 16L when white smoke was seen initially believed to from from the left engine (Trent 1000). The aircraft rolled out and vacated the runway onto taxiway K and stopped clear of the runway, emergency services responded. No fire was detected.

The airline subsequently reported there had been a brakes issue.

The airport reported fire services were told about smoke from the left hand engine. There was no fire however and emergency services returned to their base after monitoring the aircraft for about one hour. Pieces of a tyre were found on the runway.
