A Skywest Canadair CRJ-900 on behalf of Delta Airlines, registration N800SK performing flight DL-4055 from Detroit,MI to Omaha,NE (USA), was climbing through FL270 out of Detroit when the crew reported the failure of the right hand engine (CF34) and decided to divert to Grand Rapids,MI (USA) where the aircraft landed safely on runway 17 about 20 minutes later. The aircraft taxied to the apron on one engine.

A passenger reported they heard a loud pop, the crew indicated the right hand engine had failed and they were diverting to Grand Rapids, where emergency services were on standby.

A replacement CRJ-900 registration N825SK reached Omaha with a delay of about 7 hours.
