An Air Canada Airbus A330-300, registration C-GXZD performing flight AC-812 from Montreal,QC (Canada) to Lisbon (Portugal), was enroute at FL390 about 80nm northnorthwest of St. John's,NL (Canada) when the crew declared PAN PAN reporting they had lost both autopilots and multiple other systems. The crew requested to return to Montreal, descended to FL340 for the return and landed safely back in Montreal about 2:30 hours after the onset of trouble and leaving FL390.

The rotation was cancelled.

The Canadian TSB reported company maintenance determined the Air Data and Inertial Reference Unit (ADIRU#1) was faulty and replaced the unit.

The aircraft returned to service about 38 hours after landing back.
