The aircraft remained on the ground in Tehran for about 4 hours, then departed for the return flight and reached Sharjah with a delay of about 3:15 hours.
Iran's CAA opened an investigation into the occurrence.
On Apr 19th 2024 Iran's CAA/AAIB released their preliminary report in Persian and English stating:
The flight was cleared by radar controller to follow ILS APP RWY 29R and tower controller issued landing clearance to land on RWY29R too.
At 10:15 UTC, tower controller just prior to landing understood that the aircraft is going to land on un-assigned runway 29 left instead of the runway 29 right. Since there was not any traffic on RWY 29L and no concern regarding safety of the aircraft, the controller did not interrupt the aircraft landing on RWY 29L and informed the captain of the event after landing.
Subsequently, for instituting investigation process, the pilots were interviewed by IR Iran AAIB while the passengers were on board for departure. In coordination with the state of operator and for reducing more delay, the CVR was deactivated to keep the related audio files for delivering it to Air Accident Sector of UAE in the destination.
At 14:28 UTC, the aircraft was released to continue its flight to destination, Sharjah International Airport with about three hours and thirty minutes delay.
The AAIB further stated:
According to the statements of the pilot in command, his latest flight to OIIE airport was about one month ago, when he had been cleared to land on RWY 29 left visually because the RWY 29 right had been closed at that time. He clarified that is why he landed on RWY 29 left visually again at the date of the incident. while he has been instructing the co-pilot, he partially payed attention to the context of ATIS of the airport about RWY 29 right PAPI lights unserviceability, but he had not considered the rest of ATIS content clarifying that the RWY 29 right had been operational, not closed.
