An Azul Linhas Aereas Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration PR-AKD performing flight AD-2742 from Recife,PE to Aracaju,SE (Brazil), was climbing out of Recife's runway 18 when the crew shut the left hand engine (PW127M) down, stopped the climb at 4000 feet and returned to Recife for a safe landing on runway 18 about 25 minutes after departure.

Brazil's CENIPA reported the crew received a fire indication for the left hand engine, worked the related checklists and returned to Recife. No evidence of fire or smoke was identified.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Recife two days later.
