A Malta Air Boeing 737-800 on behalf of Ryanair, registration 9H-QDR performing flight FR-1628 from Catania to Pescara (Italy), was on final approach to Pescara's runway 22 when the crew initiated a go around reporting a hydraulic failure. The aircraft entered a hold at 5000 feet while working the related checklists, then positioned for another approach to runway 22 for a safe landing at a slightly higher speed than normal.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration 9H-QCC performed the return flight FR-1629 to Catania with a delay of about 2 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 30 hours before returning to service.
