A Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 717-200, registration N494HA performing flight HA-105 from Kahului,HI to Honolulu,HI (USA) with 114 passengers and 5 crew, had been pushed back from Kahului's gate 17 when the aircraft began to taxi before equipment and ground crew was clear of the aircraft. The aircraft impacted the tug causing serious injuries to a ground worker.

The flight was cancelled. The aircraft is still on the ground in Kahului about 24 hours after the accident.

The FAA reported: "DURING PUSHBACK OPERATIONS, AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO TAXI BEFORE RAMP PERSONNEL WERE CLEAR. AIRCRAFT IMPACTED TUG CAUSING INJURY TO RAMP WORKER." The FAA reported the injury was serious and rated the occurrence an accident.
