A KLM Boeing 777-200, registration PH-BQP performing flight KL-895 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Shanghai (China), was enroute at FL330 about 40nm east of Varna (Bulgaria) when the crew did not receive clearance to enter Turkish Airspace with a failed transponder. The crew decided to turn around and return to Amsterdam telling Amsterdam Approach, that only one transponder had failed and the others were working, however, they did not have any ADS-B. The aircraft landed safely on Amsterdam's runway 18R about 5.5 hours after departure.

The rotation was cancelled.

The aircraft returned to service about 22 hours after landing back in Amsterdam.
