A Delta Airlines Boeing 737-900, registration N927DZ performing flight DL-984 from San Francisco,CA to Atlanta,GA (USA), was on final approach to Atlanta's runway 08L when a bird impacted the aircraft prompting the crew to declare emergency. The crew initiated a go around, climbed back to 4000 feet, positioned for another approach to runway 08L and landed without further incident about 20 minutes after the go around.

The FAA reported: "AIRCRAFT STRUCK A BIRD AND POST FLIGHT INSPECTION REVEALED DAMAGE TO THE PITOT TUBE, ATLANTA, GA."

The aircraft remained on the ground in Atlanta for about 10 hours before returning to service.
