A passenger waiting for the return flight V0-2197 reported they were told the aircraft had to return to Caracas about 30 minutes into the flight due to engine problems. The flights 2196 and 2197 were cancelled. The passengers waiting for 2197 were bussed to Cabimas about 80nm northwest of Valera. A Canadair CRJ-700 registration YV2115 subsequently took the passengers to Caracas on a special flight.
