A Delta Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N3732J performing flight DL-986 from Burlington,VT to Minneapolis,MN (USA) with 131 people on board, was climbing out of Burlington when the crew stopped the climb at about 13,000 feet reporting an engine (CFM56) failure, declaring emergency and requesting an immediate return to Burlington, subsequently advising they were stable now and wanted to burn off fuel. The aircraft landed safely back on Burlington's runway 15 about 50 minutes after departure.

The aircraft returned to service 71 hours after landing.
